What the job involves
An electrician installs, tests, maintains and repairs electrical wiring and equipment. Where the work is
Construction and building contractors, the electricity utility, factories and processing plants, hospitals, hotels, universities and schools, mining and water utilities, maintenance teams in public institutions, and self-employed work for homes and small businesses.
How people get into it
Most electricians qualify through a TVET programme in electrical installation or electrical technology, or a diploma from a Rwanda Polytechnic college, then build supervised site experience. Employers value evidence of safe working, testing ability, and any licences or permits the work requires.
